A mouthguard is one of the simplest ways to protect your teeth, gums and jaw from avoidable damage. Whether you play contact sport, wear braces, or grind your teeth at night, a professionally made mouthguard can help prevent chips, fractures, tooth wear and jaw discomfort.

At Keyworth Dental, we provide custom-made mouthguards designed around your bite for comfort, stability and reliable protection.

Custom-made versus shop-bought

Over-the-counter “boil and bite” guards may seem convenient, but they often fit poorly, feel bulky and can be difficult to tolerate. A poor fit can reduce protection and make it more likely that the guard ends up in a drawer after a few uses.

Our mouthguards are made specifically for your teeth, which means they are typically more comfortable, less bulky and far more secure. This leads to better protection and better compliance.

Sports mouthguards

If you play sport, particularly contact or collision sports, a mouthguard helps protect against dental trauma such as broken teeth, cuts to the lips and gums, and jaw injuries. Even in non-contact sports, falls and impact can happen unexpectedly.

A custom sports mouthguard is ideal for: Rugby, hockey, football, martial arts and boxing, netball, basketball, lacrosse, skateboarding, cycling and more.

If you are having orthodontic treatment, we can advise on suitable mouthguard options designed to work with braces or aligners.

Night guards for teeth grinding

Many people clench or grind their teeth while sleeping, sometimes without realising. Over time this can lead to tooth wear, sensitivity, fractures, headaches and jaw joint symptoms.

A custom night guard (also called a bite guard) helps by creating a protective barrier between the teeth and reducing the damaging forces associated with grinding.

Signs you may benefit from a night guard include: Worn edges on teeth, jaw tightness on waking, frequent headaches, sensitivity, or a history of chipped/restored teeth.

If you would like to arrange a sports mouthguard or a night guard for grinding, our team will be happy to advise.
